Jessie Barringer

Jessie Robertson Barringer, 93, of Chattanooga, passed away at her home on Thanksgiving Day.  A life-long resident of Chattanooga, Jessie was born to the late Olice and Phena Robertson. She graduated from Central High School and worked at Sterchi Brothers, marrying Robert (Bob) Barringer in 1950.  She was a member of Christ United Methodist Church. 

Gifted with a beautiful alto voice, Jessie sang in the St. Paul United Methodist Church choir.  She also sang with The Singing Dilettantes, a women’s group that performed regionally and on local television.  She was extremely involved in the church, serving in many teaching and leadership positions including Sunday school, kindergarten, and youth.  She was lovingly referred to as “Pretty Jessie”.  After raising her family, she returned to work at the Tennessee Department of Unemployment Security, retiring in 1979. 

Jessie was preceded in death by her husband of 64 years and siblings Lamar, Harry, and Billy Jack Robertson.  She is survived by her son Alan (Robyn) Barringer, daughter Cheryl (Mark) Rogers, grandchildren Matt (Hope) Willoughby, Alex (Sydney) Willoughby, Chelsey Barringer, Brandon Barringer, great grandchildren Kate and Olivia Willoughby, and many nieces and nephews.

A private graveside service will be held for the family at Hamilton Memorial Gardens.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in Jessie’s name to Christ United Methodist Church, 8645 East Brainerd Road, Chattanooga, TN  37421.
